A pelican: This large yellow bird in a red nest with three faint, grey nestlings. The outlines are incised. It pecks at its own breast from where blood flows onto the chicks. The nest is supported by a yellow branch.

This bird feeds its young on regurgitated fish. In the Middle Ages it was believed  that feeding the nestlings on her own blood, was a symbol of Christ.
