ARCHITECTURE
Ivona Enescu, Dan Enache and Rachel Haworth made an investigation into the fabric of the Abbey. Their task was to try to find evidence of how the Abbey was built, at what date and in what order its different parts were constructed. This investigation could lead to a better understanding of how the Abbey relates to its context of the island, the parish structure and the Cistercian order.
Researching how the Abbey appeared in the past can also help us to decide how it should be treated in the future. A large part of the Heritage Campus’ task was to find out the opinions of Islanders on what should or should not be done with the Abbey next. Should it be opened as an exhibition to the public? Should it be used as a church once more? Different proposals were made by Islanders and campus members.
